A new mental health and addictions treatment facility opened its doors in Rockland this morning.
The new centre will offer addiction treatment, emergency crisis care, and geriatric psychiatric among others.
Dr. Suzanne Filion says the services were always in Rockland, but the new centre means they'll have three times the space and provide more for more people. She says the most concrete example of this is that access to addiction services in the region will double.
Dr. Filion says demand for a new centre was high. She says in her 10 years of working at the Hawkesbury General Hospital, she'd get calls from residents and agencies alike asking what could be done about increased services in the Prescott Russell region.
She says the demand is still so high she expects they'll outgrow the new space within a couple of years.
