Ottawa chef named Canada's Top Chef

An Ottawa chef has been named Canada's Top Chef.

René Rodriguez, of Navarra, won the fourth season of the Food Network reality series Top Chef Canada.

Rodriguez wins a grand prize of $100,000, a $30,000 G.E. Monogram kitchen, and a custom Caesarstone Quartz installation worth $25,000.

Rodriguez defeated 13 other contestants during the series, including challengers from Kitchener and the Six Nations Reserve in Monday night's finale.

Rodriguez is the owner and chef of Navarra Restaurant on Murray Street. He was educated at Le Cordon Bleu in Ottawa, and says his inspiration comes from his Mexican heritage, and his love of the Basque region of Spain.
