LRT in Ottawa "continues" under Tory government: Hudak

Progressive Conservative Leader Tim Hudak says Ottawa's $2.1 billion LRT project will continue under a Tory government.

Speaking at the site of a cancelled gas plant in Mississauga Sunday, Hudak took a question related to his announcement Friday to scrap LRT plans in the GTHA and whether Ottawa was part of that plan.

"No. Ottawa continues," said Hudak. "Ottawa and K.W."

K.W. being Kitchener-Waterloo.

Hudak's broader announcement at the press conference was focused around his plan to hold a judicial inquiry into the cancelled gas plants if he became Premier. Standing before the site of one of the cancelled plants, Hudak said, "a billion dollars went into this hole."

The Liberals cancelled the plants in 2011 at a cost of up to $1.1 billion.

Premier Kathleen Wynne has apologized for the way the gas plants issue was handled and has said her predecessor Dalton McGuinty, under whose watch the plants were scrapped, made ``mistakes.''
