Campers who visited Ontario's provincial parks say camp sites were muddier and wetter than usual.
Ken Lacroix, manager of park operations, says the rainy week leading into the long weekend was largely to blame.
"The drainage in some areas is poorer than others and that creates conditions where trailers might get stuck on some camp sites," he said. "So we tried to move people around and accommodate as many people as we could considering the conditions."
He says they've brought in pumps and gravel to get the sites cleaned up as quickly as possible.
"With a park that has hundreds of camp sites it's difficult to get enough resources to look at the problem and fix the problem over the short span of a few days.
Despite the conditions, Lacroix says the number of visitors to Ontario's parks was consistent with the number of campers they've had in recent years.
