CHEO doctor wins award for innovative hearing test

A CHEO doctor has won a national award for his breakthrough in hearing testing. His innovation is so simple, children can test themselves.

Dr. Matthew Bromwich was honoured with the Telus Award for Mobile Health Innovation at the annual CATAAlliance Awards Wednesday night.

"Shoebox Audiometry” is a highly interactive series of iPad games that allow the player to test his or her own hearing.

Dr. Bromwich says the test is accurate, inexpensive, and can be used anywhere.

The World Health Organization says some 664-million people are hearing impaired - only 20 per cent of them have access to testing.
