Combined 1,600 charges laid in STEP program in Ottawa and Gatineau

Ottawa Police laid more than 1,100 charges in March and April as part of their Selective Traffic Enforcement Project.

They highlight specific driving infractions each month.

There were more than 400 charges for both distracted driving and school bus and school zone infractions.

169 unsafe lane change charges were issued and 131 charges relating to cycling safey were laid.

In Gatineau 324 charges were laid for distracted driving and another 195 charges were laid for school bus and school zone infractions.
