A man in his 50s has died after a serious accident on the track at the Capital City Speedway in Ottawa's west end Wednesday night.
Paramedics responded to a call for a possible car crash around 10:45p.m.
Superintendent Deanna Schofield tells CFRA News they didn't treat the man for trauma from a car crash. It appears some medical complication occurred prior to him crashing the car.
The crash happened after the race was over and the man finished his laps. Schofield says drivers were heading back to the car-bay when the man crashed. No one else was treated.
Before emergency crews arrived, bystanders had started CPR on the male driver.
Paramedics treated the 57-year-old on the scene. Their attempts to revive him failed and he had no pulse and was not breathing when they arrived to hospital.
Ottawa Fire crews were also on scene, administering two shocks from their defibrillator.
Police are not releasing the name of the victim at this time.
