Fourth shooting incident in less than week in Ottawa, outside downtown bar

Ottawa Police are investigating a shooting outside a bar in the downtown core.

Police got the call around 2:50 a.m. Saturday for shots fired in the 300 block of Elgin Street, near Gilmour Street.

The bar is down the street from the Ottawa Police station at Elgin and Catherine.

Marc Labreque lives in the neighbourhood and was out the time. He says when he got to the scene, around 10 minutes after the shots were fired, there were around 35-40 officers scouring the area with flashlights looking for a weapon.

Labreque says he saw several officers with their hands on their guns but no guns were drawn.

He says the scene was relatively “laid-back” considering what had happened. He said no one was overly excited or scared.

Police say no injuries are reported in the incident.

Labreque says he counted at least 7 shell casings and saw bullet holes in back wall of the bar parking lot.

Police had taped off an area stretching from Lewis to Frank Streets earlier on Saturday.

This is the fourth shooting incident in the Capital in less than a week.

Police are asking anyone with information to call the Guns and Gangs Unit at 13-236-1222 Ext. 5050.
