New Canadian marathon record set in Ottawa race Weekend

Ethiopian runner Yemane Tsegay was the fastest marathoner at Ottawa Race Weekend and he has also set a record for marathons on Canadian soil.

Tsegay completed the race in 2 hours, six minutes and 54 seconds. The previous record for a Canadian marathon was 2 hours, 7 minutes and 5 seconds.

The fastest female marathon runner was Tigist Tufa, also from Ethiopia. Her time of 2 hours, 24 minutes and 31 seconds was an Ottawa marathon record.

The fastest Canadian man was Eric Gillis of Guelph and the fastest woman from Canada was Rhiannon Johns of Sault Ste. Marie.
