Taxpayers are expected to be on the hook for $4 million dollars for the problem plagued Goulbourn Recreation Complex pool.
Staff noticed leaking from the roof structure above the pool two years ago, then major rust within the walls and ceiling was also discovered, and most recently, mould. Necessary repairs now include replacing rusting doors and frames, installing a new air distribution system and new steel columns.
The city first shut it down last fall and now it's expected the pool won't re-open until next spring.
Problems with this particular building date back even further. The building was constructed in three phases, and the first was done before amalgamation. The city sued the original contractor and additional work was completed at no charge.
City lawyers are reviewing these latest problems to determine if legal action is possible.
The finance committee will vote on spending the extra cash next Tuesday.
