More problems with Barrhaven level rail crossings

CFRA News staff

There appear to have been more failures at signal crossings in Barrhaven. A tweet sent Wednesday night from an Ottawa resident complained the gates failed to go down for an approaching train.

He tweeted that the train was forced to stop metres from the crossing.

Other posts apparently showed VIA crews using handheld stop signs to direct traffic.

Ottawa Police said they did not receive calls about the failure.

Both Mayor Jim Watson and Councillor Jan Harder tweeted at the rail company demanding an explanation.

VIA Rail responded with a tweet saying the failure happened because the train was moving too slowly through the automatic warning device zone.
