Dr. Shail Verma, Ottawa Hospital oncologist, says the leading illnesses of the century, like heart disease and breast cancer, are women's illnesses.
That's why the hospital is held a conference Tuesday to discuss women's health issues like breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and heart disease.
Jennifer Vannort, vice-president of philanthropy at the Ottawa Hospital foundation, says women of all levels of health and of all ages participated in the event.
"There are many patients of the Ottawa Hospital here," she said. "And many women who've invited a friend of a family member- a mother, a sister, or daughter."
She said about 200 women registered to attend the conference hosted by a panel of local celebrities including former CTV anchor Kimothy Walker.
The conference is also a fundraiser for women's health initiatives like opening a new breast cancer centre and investing in robotic treatment technologies.
Vannoort says they've raised about half of their $20 million goal.
