A 73-year-old man is in stable condition after the small plane he was flying crashed at the Rockcliffe Airport.
Marc Messier with Ottawa Fire says the single-engine aircraft went down just after 11 a.m. Monday.
"The plane did, in fact, contact the fence and it appears as though it damaged the landing gear, causing the plane to kind of nose dive into the ground," he told CFRA. "The plane is upright. The pilot did manage to walk out of the plane on his own."
Paramedics have treated the pilot for back pain and a minor cut to his forehead; he was the only person on board at the time.
Ottawa police and the Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
