The Transportation Safety Board is investigating after an Ornge air ambulance and a FedEx cargo jet nearly collided at the Ottawa airport earlier this month.
According to Transport Canada, the medevac was taxiing for departure on June 5th, but had been told by air traffic controllers to stop short of Runway 25, where the FedEx plane was landing.
A preliminary report finds the Ornge air ambulance crossed the runway stop line without authorization and risked collision with the larger plane.
It was stopped by air traffic control before actually entered onto the runway.
Ornge issued the following statement in regards to the incident:
"The runway incursion was reported to Ornge's safety reporting system by the flight crew shortly after the occurrence. We are conducting our own internal investigation in cooperation with Nav Canada, Transport Canada and the Transportation Safety Board. There was no damage or injury resulting from this occurrence."
