Police Chief worries about brazen shootings

Tuesday's shooting is the 16th to take place in Ottawa this year - 12 of those incidents were gang related.

Ottawa Police Chief Charles Bordeleau told CFRA he's worried about shooters becoming more brazen.

"Any shooting is a concern to us, but what is the concern is the brazeness in the shootings and as you saw with last night, it happened in a relatively busy area," he said. "It's open to the public. Lots of people are walking around and we have a couple of individuals shooting at each other, so that's a concern to us."

Bordeleau said the majority of the gang-related shootings become difficult for them to investigate because the victims do not cooperate over fear of retaliation or the belief they could deal with the situation on their own.
