Police searching for suspect in Glebe robbery

Ottawa police need help identifying a suspect following a robbery in the Glebe earlier this month.

Around 8 p.m. June 2, a man armed with what's now believed to have been a fake handgun walked into a convenience store on Third Avenue with a shirt over his head and demanded money.

Police say the suspect pressed the weapon into the store owner's back and tried to put him in a chokehold; the clerk eventually used a broom to fight off his attacker.

The suspect took off in a waiting vehicle, a black Pontiac G5, which police say was stolen from the parking garage of a Cedarwood Avenue apartment that day or the day before.

The suspect is a slim black man between the ages of 20 and 25; he was wearing a red t-shirt, black shorts and white basketball shoes.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit at 613-236-1222 ext. 5116 or Crime Stoppers at 613-233-8477 (TIPS) or toll free at 1-800-222-8477.
