Breezy attacker sentenced to two years in jail

A judge has handed down a two-year sentence for the 24-year-old man who pleaded guilty to attacking Breezy the dog.

The sentence includes three months for harassment and six months for threats; an additional four months will be served for a break and enter charge.

Steven Helfer has already spent eight months in jail and will get credit for that time.

The judge has also ordered a three-year period of probation, non-communication orders and a 25-year ban on owning animals.

Breezy the dog was rescued by the Ottawa Humane Society and revived with the help of community donations.

She's now living with the Gatineau family who adopted her.
