Local police officers were out in full force on Friday night as part of the joint forces 'Operation 0.08'.
A safety blitz conducted by the Ottawa Police, Gatineau Police, RCMP, OPP, MRC des Collines, Sûreté du Québec and Military Police saw 9,000 vehicles pulled over.
Police say that 40 drivers provided a breath sample and five people were charged with impaired driving, four were alcohol related the other was drug related.
Eight drivers had their license suspended and vehicles towed.
The major traffic blitz was conducted to coincide with the start of summer, to help promote safe roadways and reduce impaired driving.
