This week marks Welcoming Ottawa Week - a time dedicated to helping immigrants settle into life in Ottawa.
It's difficult to find a way to connect when you move to a new country - and Hindia Mohamoud, the director of the Ottawa Local Immigration Partnership knows this first hand. She immigrated to Ottawa 20 years ago.
"Connection is where human beings thrive and it takes a long time," she said. "Even with a long time, it's not guaranteed that it will succeed... We're making it intentional. We're creating opportunities for quality-based interactions - not interactions where we say 'what do immigrants need?' ... This is about discovering human beings, mutual benefit."
The 2nd annual Welcoming Ottawa Week offers four times as many activities as last year. Those include concerts, sports, workshops and academic seminars.
