Cyclists reminded to obey the rules of the road

CFRA News staff

Now that summer is in full swing the Ottawa Police Service is reminding both new and experienced cyclists to respect the rules of the road.

They say bicycles are considered vehicles and are subject to the same rules and duties as motorists.

That includes stopping at all stop signs and red lights, signalling lane changes, turns and stops and having a bell or horn on your bike and always use a light at night.

Police remind cyclists it's also both unsafe and illegal to ride a bike on the side walk.

They say it is the responsibility of both cyclists and motorists to share the road and obey the rules to make travelling safer for everyone.
