By 2:30 in the afternon Tuesday's rainfall had already brought 26 mm to the capital and was slated to bring another 5-10mm through the evening and overnight.
Environment Canada meteorologist Peter Kimbell said Ottawa was in for a brief break.
"For an hour or two because the band of precipitation that we've just experienced is now just to the east of the airport but it's still affecting Gatineau. We'll probably have a couple hours of a break but then we are expecting more showers to continue for the rest of the day and this evening," said Kimbell.
He said a thunderstorm was possible if the wind shifts and sends warmer temperatures our way.
Including the rain Tuesday Ottawa has seen over 100 mm of rain in June. That's a bit above normal but Kimbell says it's not very unusual.
