SQ charges Ottawa man with dangerous driving, fleeing from police

An Ottawa man is facing charges of dangerous driving and fleeing from police after an incident in Gatineau.

The Sûreté du Québec says they stopped a speeding motorcyclist on Highway 50 near Maloney Boulevard around 8 p.m. Wednesday, but when police approached, he took off, reaching speeds of more than 160 kilometres per hour.

The chase ended a short time later at the interchange with Highway 5, when the man lost control of his bike; he wasn't injured.

The 27-year-old is due to appear in court again in September.

His licence has been suspended for a week and he's been fined almost $1,200.
