Almonte residents protest against planned hydro plant expansion

Residents of Almonte made a show of force today to express their opposition to a planned expansion of a power generating station in the old Maple Leaf building in the downtown core of the town.

At least 200 protesters took part in a rally in the town Saturday afternoon, wearing red and chanting "Save our river." The operator of the station is Enerdu, owned by Cavanaugh Construction.

Protestors say the expansion would cause environmental harm and deter tourism in the community.

They're calling on the Ontario government to step in and stop the project.
