350,000 Canada Day revellers expected in downtown Ottawa Tuesday

Organizers of Canada Day celebrations Tuesday in the capital say they're expecting around 350,000 people to pour into the downtown core to mark Canada's 147th birthday.

Preparations continue for the main event on Parliament Hill, with activities planned all day. It starts with a flag-raising ceremony on the East Lawn at 9 a.m. and ends with the fireworks display around 10 p.m.

The Canada Day Noon show will feature the Snowbirds aerobatic team and flights by CF-18s, as well as performances by Serena Ryder and Marianas Trench. If you miss the noon show, the same group of artists will perform live again at the Evening Show at 730 p.m.

More events are planned throughout the day and evening at Major's Hill Park and at Jacques Cartier Park in Gatineau.

With Canada Day comes plenty of road closures; all of the major roads in the downtown core will be closed. You might want to take the bus as OC Transpo is offering free bus service all day long.

There are also Canada Day parties in the suburbs, including in Kanata, Orleans and Barrhaven.
