Police hand out tickets and warnings in bike blitz

Another bicycle safety blitz June 26-27 led police to hand out 16 provincial offence tickets, 14 for rules of the road violations and two for not having the right equipment.

Police also gave out 160 warnings for both violations.

They stopped more than 130 cyclists in the downtown core, Vanier, the ByWard Market, Rideau, Hintonburg and Centretown areas.

It's all part of an ongoing effort by Ottawa Police to remind cyclists that they, too, are part of the road safety equation.
