Quiet Canada Day for Ottawa police officers

Ottawa Police say this year's low number of arrests on Canada Day reflects well on the capital.

Const. Marc Soucy says police made seven arrests.  Of those, one was related to a criminal matter- a sexual assault- and the others were related to non-criminal matters including trespassing, property offenses, and public intoxication.

"In the past I've seen it in the 20s and sometimes a little bit higher," Soucy said. "Overall it was a good Canada Day."

A spokesperson for RCMP says there were no reported incidents on Parliament Hill where RCMP was providing security throughout the both the afternoon and evening concerts.
