Herongate gun violence subject of meeting Thursday night

Ottawa South MPP John Fraser is hosting a meeting in the Herongate area to deal with the rash of gun violence in the neighbourhood.

Ottawa Police, Crime Prevention Ottawa, and other community groups will be there as well.

The neighbourhood's most recent incident was on June 17th, when a man was shot in the face on Cedarwood Drive.

The meeting is at the Heron Road Community Centre Thursday night at 7p.m.

As part of a number of closures, Ottawa Police closed their Herongate office - which has worried many in the neighbourhood.

Ottawa Police is in a midst of a review that will decide whether to shutter all the Community Police Centres in favour of having community officers go mobile in their assigned neighbourhoods.

That review is expected to be completed later this year.
