With an increase in gun violence in their neighbourhood some Herongate residents gathered to talk to their local MPP and members of the Ottawa Police Guns and Gangs Unit on Thursday evening.
They wanted to know what was being done to keep them safe and had some suggestions of their own.
Those in attendance suggested that there be an increase in police patrol, added security cameras, improvement to lighting to help deter crime and some even suggested that they reopen the community police centre that closed earlier this year.
The Ottawa Police officers who were at the meeting told the public not to change their regular behaviour due to the recent crimes.
They also encouraged them to help police by keeping an eye out for anything suspicious and not to hesitate in calling them with a tip, no matter how insignificant it may seem.
