uOttawa gets grant to train environmental health researchers

The University of Ottawa has received a $1.65-million grant from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada to help the next generation of environmental health researchers keep tabs on potential health and environmental hazards.

Professor Laurie Chan tells CFRA the money will be used to create courses to give students a leg up in their field of choice.

"We are developing intensive courses as well as activities like summer schools so the students will have hands on experience to handle the real life challenge that we have with pollution or chemicals released into the environment," he told CFRA.

The program will focus on environmental toxicology and analytical chemistry research.
