Construction season is in full swing and that means there are some new road closures in order to get some important work done.
One of those closures is Queen Street. It is shut in both directions between Metcalfe and Elgin.
It's part of ongoing work to replace the existing watermain, which was installed back in 1874.
Detours are in place, but sidewalks and parking garages are still accessible. Local businesses are open as usual.
In Kanata there will also be closures in the Glen Cairn area.
Oriole Avenue will be closed from Oakburn Road to Abbeyhill Drive.
Paddock Way will be closed from Sherwood Street to Post Road.
Post Road will be closed from Paddock Way to Old Colony Road.
Kanata South Councillor Allan Hubley told CFRA it's part of a $1.4-million project to build a new storm sewer in the area and reduce the risk of flooding.
"This is going to give the storm water system more capacity to handle the water, so we'll get it off the streets and away from their basements," he said."
That construction, which is a part of Phase 3 of the West End Flooding Solutions project runs until the end of September. The closed streets will remain open to local traffic only.
