Ottawa Senators General Manager Bryan Murray has been diagnosed with cancer, according to a release issued by the team today.
Murray, 71, will have to undergo further testing and will begin treatment immediately, the release says.
That treatment may require him to be away from the Senators' office for periods of time. The team's assistant general managers, Pierre Dorion and Randy Lee, will fill in where required.
"On behalf of the entire Senators family, the team is asking that the thoughts, prayers and support of the entire hockey community are with Bryan and his family," the team's statement reads.
The Senators have asked for privacy for Murray and his family.
