Kanata is poised to see an influx of new shopping centres.
The planning committee gave the go ahead Tuesday to a new 10,000 square metre facility for restaurant and retail shops and 525 parking spaces.
Councillor Marianne Wilkinson says that, combined with the in-the-works Tanger Outlets, will be a big draw.
"And it's because it's right on the 417. It's easily accessible and the Transitway is going through there in the future so, there's a number of factors, I think, leading to having the shopping going in that area," said Wilkinson.
A box-style mall for Didsbury Road that will feature La-Z-Boy Furniture, the Brick and McDonald's is also receiving the stamp of approval.
