Police and Aboriginal youths to canoe down Ottawa River

Local police and Aboriginal youth groups will be spending Wednesday together in an annual canoeing event, designed to bring the two groups closer together.

Police from seven different services, including the Ottawa Police, the OPP and the RCMP, Gatineau Police, Surete du Quebec, Akwesane Mohawk, and Lac Simon police will be joining youths from the Odawa Native Friendship Centre, the Wabano Centre for Aboriginal Health, the Minwaashin Lodge, and the Ottawa Inuit Children's Centre, as they canoe across Dow's Lake, portage to the Ottawa River, and then canoe to Victoria Island.

Once there, they'll share a feast of traditional foods.

The 14th Annual Flotilla for Friendship launches at 11 o'clock Wednesday morning at Dow's Lake.
