VIA Rail tweeted Thursday night they expect the line to be cleared by noon Friday, with service resuming in the afternoon.
There are, "3,600 passengers affected that were supposed to travel between Toronto and Montreal and between Toronto and Ottawa today in both directions, so we are transporting the affected passengers to their destinations by motor coach right now," she said just after 3p.m. Thursday.
She said the buses were putting things about an hour behind schedule.
For anyone whose train had not yet departed refunds and rescheduled trips were being made available with no service charge, but only until the time the train was originally scheduled to depart.
The last train Thursday had been slated to leave at 7 p.m.
