Some packed bars and pubs, some stayed on the couch, others tuned in on the radio, but all eyes and ears were on the World Cup Final between Germany and Argentina.
Mario Goetze scored in the 113th minute to lift the Germans to their first World Cup win since the country reunited. West Germany won the Cup in 1990, defeating Argentina, no less.
In Ottawa, the game ended and the Byward Market was filled with the sounds of cheering and car horns. Fans left the pubs and waved their flags in the streets, some even getting on top of their cars to lead the cheering.
Germany is the first European nation to win a World Cup title on South American soil.
Argentina may be going home without the cup, but star striker Lionel Messi won the Golden Ball, the best player of the tournament.
