City council candidate to take a run at mayor's office

A candidate for city council in the upcoming municipal election will dropping out of the race, to take a run at the city's top job.

Darren W. Wood is currently registered to run for council in Ward 6 - Stittsville, against incumbent Shad Qadri.

In a press release issued early Thursday morning, Wood says he will be running instead for the mayor's office. He plans to officially begin his mayoral campaign July 18th.

Wood says he will run on a platform of holding the city to a 0% tax increase in 2015 and 2016, eliminating the Green Bin program and restoring weekly garbage pickup, reworking the LRT to use existing tracks, and freezing council salaries and budgets.

He would be the fourth name on the ballot to run for mayor, alongside incumbent Jim Watson, and candidates Mike Maguire and Robert White.

The election is October 27th.
