Ottawa is set to play host to the 2017 and 2018 Senior/Junior Canadian Track and Field Championships.
Mayor Jim Watson said this is a win for the city.
"Hosting this national event presents more than victories on this field and track," said Watson. "We'll also score a victory for the area economy. Holding this event will generate an estimated $3-million of economic activity each and every year the championship is here."
The tournament will take place at the Terry Fox Athletic Facility at Mooney's Bay. The city plans to spend $300,000 in upgrades into the track ahead of the events.
