While it might be tempting to park close by and walk over to Lansdowne Park to watch the RedBlacks game, businesses in the area are on high-alert.
In a statement to CFRA News, the mall's management said:
The issue of Lansdowne parking is not new to us.
Billings Bridge has been serving the community proudly for more than 60 years.
The site is certainly in an ideal location with great access by bus, car, taxi, bike or walking.
We recognize that our property is conveniently located but because we have limited parking we can only provide parking to customers while they are shopping.
Over the years there have been many events around our neighbourhood such as the Exhibition and Ottawa Rough Rider football games so implementing special signage and hiring parking guards at our expense is not new to us.
In fact, the signs in the parking lot are quite old. The community has been very understanding and respectful of this and we have not had to issue City of Ottawa parking tickets as a result.
Last year as an example, the RA Centre had a teen event one weekend and we hired additional security and signage to discourage parking at Billings while our businesses were still open.
All worked out well for everyone concerned.
