First Avenue, between Bronson and O'Connor, is being closed to all but local traffic starting around 7:00 a.m. Monday, as road resurfacing, and sewer and watermain work get underway.
Construction work will be carried out in two phases, so as not to conflict with other construction in the Glebe.
OC Transpo is rerouting the Number 6 bus down third avenue during the work. Temporary stops will be in place.
First Avenue construction will occur from Bronson to Percy, and from Bank to O'Connor. There will also be construction on Percy Street from Glebe to Second.
As part of the work, changes will be made to the street to accommodate a new one-way, westbound bike lane on the north side of First Avenue from O'Connor to Percy. Work is expected to be completed in December, with the exception of the final lifr of asphalt, landscaping and the opening of the bike lane. That work is expected to wrap up next spring.
