The Guns and Gangs Unit is taking over the investigation into a shooting that happened in broad daylight Monday afternoon in Ottawa's west end.
Officers are exploring a potential link between this and three similar recent cases.
In each of the shootings a man was shot in the leg.
All have happened in the last month, one in the ByWard market, one in the south end involving the Crips gang, one at an unknown location where a man brought himself to hospital, and now this shooting on Ritchie Street in the parking lot of an Ottawa Community Housing complex.
Duty Inspector Michel Marin said he can't confirm if the cases are related.
“It’ll be up to the Guns and Gangs Unit to come up with that connection and investigate it further. As it stands now I’ve got nothing to link it to other shootings,” said Marin, speaking with reporters in the parking lot where the shooting took place.
Forensic identification officers have been called to the scene to sweep the area for shell casings, bullets or any other evidence of a shooting.
Police say cooperation from the victim is "limited."
Monday's shooting took place in a parking lot next to the complex where 24-year-old Malik Adjokatcher was shot and killed in May 2013.
