York Regional Police have charged a 35-year-old Ottawa father after he allegedly he left his young daughters in a hot vehicle while he went shopping in Vaughan Tuesday.
York Regional Police received a call from a concerned citizen about two young girls, aged three and six, who were left unattended in a hot car in a parking lot around 5:45 p.m. Tuesday.
"Two children had been left unattended in a vehicle and it was obviously quite a hot day," Const. Laura Nicolle with York Regional Police told CFRA affiliate NewsTalk 1010. "The caller was extremely concerned for the children and removed the children from the vehicle and brought them into a fitness centre nearby to call police."
The children were assessed by paramedics at the scene and were deemed OK.
Police said the father's excuse was that he was only running inside for a short time.
The man has been charged with leaving a child unattended under the Child and Family Services Act.
If convicted the man could face jail time or a fine.
