Parks have weather to thank for increase in visitors

Spokespeople at local provincial parks say a whole lot of sunshine has brought a whole lot of people to Ottawa's provincial parks.

Environment Canada says the region only saw rain on six out of the 22 Saturdays, Sundays and Holiday Mondays since Victoria Day.

Thanks to July's good weather, Dean Noonan, superintendent of parks at Fitzroy Provincial Park, says this year's camping visits were up three per cent from last year.

Newnan says he expects that trend to keep up for the remainder of the park's season that ends after the Thanksgiving weekend, adding that they've already gotten reservations for all of the long weekends between now and then.
