Dog allegedly shot, beaten near Calabogie

An Ottawa man says his family's dog appears to have been shot near its left eye and beaten at a camp on Lake Norway near Calabogie.

Rick Cadham says his aunt's dog, named Wiser, was found covered in blood and obviously hurt.  Initially, he says they believed he had been attacked by a bear or a mountain lion.  When they took him to the veterinarian, Cadham says the doctor said it looked like Wiser had been shot.

Cadham says they believe this attack was intentional because the dog had been limping and because of the trajectory of the bullet wound which is going down.

He says Wiser will likely lose his eye that's "pretty much jelly."  He says they're not sure if the dog will survive the attack, but the dog's condition has improved since the attack on Wednesday.

Renfrew County OPP says they haven't had any complaints about similar incidents in the area.

UPDATE: Wiser is walking, eating and drinking a bit. It appears he will pull through. Once the swelling goes down we will find out more about his eye. Thank you.
