Electrical problem likely to blame for fire aboard Bloodmobile

Ottawa Fire says its investigating the cause of a fire on the Canadian Blood Services Bloodmobile that was parked in a garage on Colennade Road South.

Marc Messier, spokesperson with Ottawa Fire says, while the cause hasn't officially been determined, it looks like it was an electrical problem that sparked the blaze.

"There was one person in the building at the time  . . .  cleaning the Bloodmobile," Messier said. "He reported that after he turned the lights on, he could smell smoke."

The fire spread to the structure the trailer was parked in, but didn't cause too much damage to the building.

The person that was cleaning the trailer was a little shaken when crews arrived, but Messier says he wasn't hurt.

The cost of the damage is estimated at $1 million.
