Taxi cab apps gain popularity before official launch

Coventry Connections hasn't yet officially launched its new series of apps that will allow you to order a taxi on your smartphone but the apps are already taking off.

You can choose whether to download the app for BlueLine, DJ's, WestWay, or Capital cab companies. From the app you can order a cab for a specific time and track it through GPS to see when it's arriving.

Coventry Connections President Hanif Patni said this app is ahead of other similar ones because it gives customers a fare estimate but they still pay the driver.

"(Other apps) don't take responsibility for the insurance or anything like that and, in fact, they've even been known to change prices and surcharge at busy hours, which we don't do, of course," said Patni.

He said they are planning to launch the apps in the coming months with deals for people who order cabs on their phones.

Even though they've done no advertising yet, already about 250 cabs are ordered through the apps daily.
