Ontario's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) says there are no grounds to charge an OPP officer with the Upper Ottawa Valley detachment in connection with an incident in late December.
There was a struggle when the officer tried to arrest a man; the SIU says the man became aggressive and hit the officer in the head with his right hand.
The officer noticed the man was holding a beer bottle in his left hand and, fearing he would use it to hit him, the officer punched the man in the face twice.
The man had blood on his face and was taken to hospital and treated.
The SIU says the officer was acting in his own defence and they are satisfied he did not use excessive force.
