Ottawa man at centre of 'Scotty Toppers' case to appear in court

A 29-year-old Ottawa man will be back in court Tuesday, facing charges connected to an online harassment case that affects at least 21 women.

In a statement Friday, police said 13 women reported online harassment by a man using the screen name "Scotty Toppers."

Eight other women came forward in the case after the initial report.

"It is concerning because it means that people are not comfortable reporting it to police because it is harassment, it is criminal and we need people to come forward and let us investigate these things," said Const. Marc Soucy with Ottawa Police.

Nicholas DeCarlo was charged Friday with criminal harassment, extortion, theft, mischief, and various possession charges, after a police raid. He appeared in court Saturday and was remanded into custody.
