A single-vehicle accident tied up the eastbound Queensway in downtown Ottawa for much of the morning rush hour on Thursday.
A tractor trailer collided with the concrete barriers at the construction site between Nicholas and the Vanier Parkway, closing the highway completely for more than an hour. One lane of traffic was later reopened.
The cab unit rode up over the top of the concrete barricade and knocked down a hydro pole. There was also a spill of diesel fuel that had to be cleared up.
Ottawa police report many commuters used alternate routes to avoid the tieup. That led to a considerable increase on other feeder routes in from the west end of the city.
No injuries were reported.
