Members of the Ottawa Zionist Council gathered in the downtown core Wednesday to rally in support of Israel in light of the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.
Hundreds of people have been killed in recent weeks in fighting in Gaza and Israel; a three-day ceasefire is currently in effect.
Carrying Israeli and Canadian flags, protesters marched from the Human Rights Monument on Elgin Street to Parliament Hill.
Organizer Fred Litwin says this is a crisis that affects so much more than the Middle East.
"People need to understand that this is not a war against the Palestinians, it's a war against Hamas, which is a genocidal, theocratic thuggery — nothing more than that," he told CFRA. "This is a war that concerns everybody in the West."
He adds it's up to the West to stand up against terrorist organizations like Hamas and Al-Qaeda, saying he mourns every life lost in the Middle East.
