Student volunteers lend a helping hand at OCH

A group of Master's Students at the University of Ottawa have teamed up with Ottawa Community Housing to help renovate a community space at a community housing complex on Rideau Street.

Stéphane Giguère, Ottawa Community Housing Chief Executive Officer, says the volunteer students are a great help for them, since renovating community spaces is often a low priority after things like balconies or roofing.

The students, Masters of Health Science candidates, are helping to lay down the flooring in the community room at the building on Rideau Street.

One of the student volunteers, Andreanne Titley-Peloquin says the project has provided an opportunity to bond and work on team-building with the tiny class of nine full-time students.

City Councillor Marianne Wilkinson is the chair of the board for Ottawa Community Housing, and says having these types of community spaces in these buildings are important for maintaining a good quality of life for community housing tenants.
